St. Aengus' Church 1

St. Aengus’ Church was originally to be constructed on a site nearer the village, but Liam McCormick (Architect) persuaded the church to move location to gain the most architecturally and spiritually suitable site.

St. Aengus' Church

St. Aengus’ Church or ‘Burt Chapel’ was designed by the famous architect Liam McCormick between 1964 and 1967. The church was awarded the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Triennial Gold Medal and was also awarded the title of ‘Building of the Century’ by a national poll.
